The present invention relates to a process for making a detergent particle by ne utralisation of the acid form of an anionic surfactant in a high shear mixer by a stoichiometric excess of finely divided pa rticulate neutralising agent having an average particle size of less than 5 .mu.m. The present invention also encompasses freeflowing detergent compositions made with the process.
