CANOE/KAYAK PADDLING SIMULATOR

The invention is directed to an apparatus for (and corresponding method of) simulating an outdoor activity such as paddling a canoe or kayak. The invention provides a user station for locating the user in optimal position for simulating the paddli ng motion. A resistance mechanism generates a resistive force opposing the paddling motion pe rformed by the user. This resistive force approximates the resistive force of water othe rwise encountered during paddling of a canoe or kayak on a body of water. A cross-over mechanism provides flexibility by permitting the paddling stroke to be equally p erformed on either side of the user. This cross-over may be done "on the fly" so the user need not interrupt the paddling exercise or training session.
