PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of decomposing an arom. halogenated compd. facilitating removal of alkali and salts in order to execute an incinerating disposal after subjecting the halogenated compd. such as PCB to a detoxicating treatment. SOLUTION: In the method in which the arom. halogenated compd. is dissolved in a high b.p. oil having low viscosity, and the soln. is heated to 300-400 deg.C in the presence of an alkaline material and a high b.p. olefin compd., dehalogenation is executed by using the alkaline material by 10-300 equivalence to a chlorine in the arom. halogenated compd. or by 0.1-30% (W/W)to the b.p. oil. 0.1-10% (V/V) polybutadiene is used preferably to the high b.p. oil as the high b.p. olefin compd.
