PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the processing load on a CPU at the time of reading a document by providing a motor control circuit for controlling a stepping motor by software on the outside of document reading range and controlling the stepping motor at a constant speed within the document reading range. SOLUTION: Under control of a CPU 2, a reader 5 mounted on a carriage for the print head of a printer 9 begins to read an objective document sheet and recognizes the sheet size. When it deviates from a document read out range, a stepping motor 6 is subjected to slow-up/slow-down control based on the number of steps and the motor driving pulse time preset on the slow-up/ slow-down table in an RAM 4 depending on the start interval/stop interval operation characteristics of the stepping motor 6 and the carriage is shifted from a read start or end position to a stop position. When it comes within the document read out range, the stepping motor 6 is switched, through a motor control circuit 7, to drive control and operated at a constant speed to shift the carriage thus reading a document image data transferred from an image sensor. |
