Production monitoring system for e.g. Press production

The press production monitoring system 10 comprises at least one sensor, such as an accelerometer, monitoring a remote machine such as a printing press. The system includes a local unit 16 and a remote unit 18. The local unit has a hardened monitoring system including an electronic processor based in a personal computer. The sensor is connected to the local unit via a signal line passing the signals form the sensor to a input/output sub-system or board. Data is stored for analysis in the processor memory. A comparator attached to the processor compares expected predefined thresholds and quality parameters and generates an output signal based on the comparison. The remote unit connection via the communication network 32 enables the entre production to be monitored collectively in excess of 24 hour runs and over 7 days a week.
