PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resistor which can be mounted onto a substrate on both the upper and lower sides thereof by a structure wherein a protective layer has a window in the upper surface of a first upper electrode layer for connecting the first and second upper electrode layers electrically. SOLUTION: The resistor comprises a protective layer 24 of glass or resin material covering the upper surface of at least a first upper electrode layer 22 and a resistor layer 23, and a pair of second upper electrode layers 25 provided on the side of the upper surface of the protective layer. Furthermore, a side electrode layer 26 is provided on the side of a substrate 21 in order to connect the first and second upper electrode layers 22, 25 electrically. The protective layer 24 has a window 29 in the upper surface of the first upper electrode layer 22 for connecting the first and second upper electrode layers 22, 25 electrically and the fringe 30 of the second upper electrode layer 25 is extended toward the opposite second upper electrode layer 25 side.
