PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which prevents short- circuiting between layers of a transformer and which reduces insulation process of a primary side low voltage terminal part. SOLUTION: Primary side terminal parts 9 are arranged together in the central bottom portion of a bobbin 6 around which primary and secondary windings of a transformer are alternately wound. In this case, the primary side terminal parts 9 are separated from the secondary side terminal parts 10 to lessen the insulation of a primary side low voltage terminal part from the wiring of a secondary side high voltage terminal part. A ballast capacitor is connected between terminals of the secondary winding divided into several portions to prevent short-circuiting between layers of the secondary winding.
