PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold both thin shaping and a rigidity, to enhance reliability, to improve uniformity in background color and contrast and to enable application in a wide range of usage by permitting a transparent substrate to be a plastic sheet with specified thickness and constituting a polarizing layer of a liquid crystal high molecular material which is dyed by a dichroism coloring matter. SOLUTION: Relating to a liquid display element provided with the polarizing layer at the opposite side of the respective liquid crystal layers of a pair of transparent substrates which hold the liquid crystal layer in between, the transparent substrate is the plastic sheet being more than 0.3mm and not more than 0.5mm in thickness and the polarizing layer consist of the liquid crystal high molecular material which is dyed by the dichroism coloring matter. When the thickness of the transparent substrate is less than 0.3mm, the treatment of the substrate in cell converting process is complicated, the rigidity of the formed element is poor and usage is restricted. In the meantime when it exceeds 0.5mm, a demand for making the liquid crystal display element thin is not attained. Various kinds of material which can be obtained at present are used as the dichroism coloring matter and an azo-system coloring matter or an anthraquinon-system coloring matter are indicated as an example. |
