The invention concerns an electric appliance for grilling or heating a flat slice of food (1) comprising a housing (10) with a slot (11) for acceding to a parallelepiped grilling chamber (13) in the opposite faces of which are respectively arranged facing each other two heating subassemblies (20, 20'), at least one of which comprises a plate (22) with substantially homogeneous radiation heated by heating means (24). The invention is characterised in that the radiating face of said plate (22) is completed by means for maintaining (30) a predetermined distance less than a centimetre from the slice of food, said face being in contact with these spacing means along surfaces less than one millimetre wide.
