PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a strength of burst signals whose signal levels differ accurately even when a burst signal of a specific signal form is not received. SOLUTION: A burst mode optical receiver is made up of a photo diode 11 receiving an optical signal, a recovery circuit section that uses a comparator 16 to compare a signal via a preamplifier 12 and a post amplifier 13 with a reference signal to provide an output of a digital signal 17, and an optical signal intensity detection circuit 14 that detects a signal level of the received optical signal. The optical signal intensity detection circuit 14 obtains the intensity by using a peak detector 21 to detect a peak of an optical signal output via a logarithmic amplifier 15, and a triggerable monostable multivibrator 26 detects an end of each optical signal and the detection of the peak detector 21 is reset at the detected timing so that a peak level of a preceding signal is not affected by the detection of the intensity level of a succeeding signal. |
