PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for the transfer of image data. SOLUTION: In the case that serial interfaces 43 and 19 are used, a CPU 31 decodes the JPEG data of the images of 640×480 picture elements first, converts the generated images into the reduced images of 80×60 picture elements, compressed the ones for which dummy data for four lines are added to the data and outputs the compressed JPEG data through the serial interface 43 to a computer 1. On the other hand, in the case that SCSI interfaces 42 and 18 are used, the CPU 31 outputs the prescribed JPEG data through the SCSI interface 42 to the computer 1. Then, the CPU 11 of the computer 1 decodes the data, then converts them into the thumbnail images of 106×80 picture elements and displays them at a display 3.
