<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a run length coder that detects a zero block, where discrete cosine transformation coefficients are all '0' for transmitting a prescribed value to a variable length coder. SOLUTION: A zero coefficient detection part 20 detects whether or not discrete cosine transformation coefficients are '0', and a zero block detection part 30 receives an output of the zero coefficient detection part 20 to detect a zero block where the discrete cosine transformation coefficients are all '0'. An output selection part 40 selectively outputs a (run, level), outputted from a run length coding part 10 or a prescribed (run, level) informing the zero block to a variable length coder, in response to an output of the zero block detection part 30.</p> |
