Capsules or tablets are positioned in blister packs (2) which move in a stepwise manner beneath the machine (1). Capsules are held in a reservoir (7) which is vibrated to encourage them to fall into vertical tubes (8) leading from the base of the reservoir. Capsules enter the tubes in one orientation only and in single file. At the base of the tubes is a drawer (10), with openings of the same cross section as the tubes, and a thickness equivalent to the length of one capsule. This drawer moves from side-to-side, collecting capsules from the tubes and transferring them to slots beneath (10) which lead to empty positions in the blister packs (2). Also claimed is the machine. The reservoir of capsules (7) is moved up-and-down relative to the delivery tubes (8). At its highest position the ends of the tubes are below the base of the reservoir, forming small funnels, at its lowest the tubes project into the reservoir (as shown). The distribution machine can pivot about a horizontal axis (A) on which it is mounted, either as a whole, or leaving the drawer (9) and transfer slots (10) in position. This allows access to the transfer mechanisms or blister packs for cleaning or maintenance. The plate of transfer slots can be replaced according to the desired orientation of the capsules in the pack.
