1,259,617. Pre-treating copper surfaces. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Dec. 13, 1968 [Dec. 18, 1967], No. 59317/68. Heading C7U. A surface containing at least 50% weight Cu is treated with an aqueous solution containing permanganate ions and having a pH of at least 6 prior to bending the surface to an organic material. The permanganate concentration may be 0À001% to saturation and may be introduced into the solution as the compound of the alkali on alkaline earth metals. The pH of the solution is achieved by adding phosphates, hydroxides or carbonates of Group 1 or II metals. The permanganate treatment is effected at 25‹ F. to solution boiling point and the Cu containing surface is preferably cleaned before treatment. The organic materials joined to the surface may be epoxy and modified epoxy resins, nutrile rubber, phenolics and polyvinyl butyrals.
|
