PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To closely perform wavelength dispersion compensation and to obtain the transmission of an optical signal in a high bit rate by detecting wavelength dispersion fluctuation of an optical fiber transmission line and dynamically controlling dispersion compensation quantity according to dispersion fluctuation quantity. SOLUTION: A signal whose wavelength is distorted by wavelength dispersion is inputted to an optical coupler 13 from an input port, and the polarized wave direction of the optical signal is orthogonally crossed with the polarized wave direction of a polarizer 16 by a polarized wave controller 14. After an optical signal is inputted to and amplified by an optical amplifier 12 from the coupler 13, it is propagated through a dispersion-compensating device 11 one time. The optical signal is made incident on a polarized wave controller 15, that is controlled by a computer 17, and has a certain specific polarization direction. There, it is branched into one that is directed toward an output port again through the coupler 13, and the other that is directed toward the amplifier 12 once more. Because the output port is provided with the polarizer 16, only light that has a specific polarized wave state can permeate it. Therefore, a signal is selectively taken out by controlling the controller 15. |
