Treatment of particularly difficult wastes arising in paper recycling

The method treats difficult paper-containing wastes, arising from recovery of cellulosics. The waste is mixed with nitrogen-containing by-products and/or a mineral component containing calcium oxide. The waste is further mixed thoroughly, over 25-60 min, in a continuous mixer with rising temperature, to arrive at 200-500 deg C, preferably 300-450 deg C. On cooling, the product solidifies. Also claimed is the equipment carrying out the process, comprising a cylindrical reactor (7) with conveying and mixing screw (8). At the upper end of the reactor, there is a loader for the waste and additive supplies (1, 2). At the other, lower end there is a product shaft (14). The reactor is jacketed for heating and discharges waste gases, to three waste gas lines (4).
