The electric toothbrush has a hand-held housing (1) contg. an electric motor with a rotational force output shaft, a switch for controlling the electric motor and a cylindrical tooth brush (2) mounted on the housing and rotated about its longitudinal axis by the shaft. The toothbrush is removably mounted on the housing. The mouth is protected from the cylindrical brush during rotation of the brush by a shield (4).
