The alignment checking too is used for verifying the angular alignment of the component surface or edge to the horizontal, using an alignment edge (2) brought into contact with the component surface or edge. The detected angular alignment is indicated by an acoustic signal source for providing one or more acoustic signals. A continuous acoustic tone may be provided when the correct alignment is detected with a different tone signal, e.g. a different tone frequency, indicating an incorrect alignment.
