The device has electromagnetic actuators (3) with opening and a closing magnets (7), each with at least one coil (10). The coils are positioned to the side of the associated gas exchange valve axis (12). The magnet cores (26) engage around the armature shaft, i.e. valve stem (13), leaving only a gap (25). At least the core next to the valve plate has a gap, the width (14) of which is larger than the diameter (15) of the valve shaft. Due to this, the core slides over the valve shaft from the side. The device has at least two actuators, premounted on a plate (16,5), which has apertures (17) for the coils.
