FIELD: diagnostics of main and product pipe-lines. SUBSTANCE: pulses of ultrasonic oscillations in the form of synphasing wave axially symmetric and closed along circumference of axial section of pipe with same amplitudes and phases in all points of circumference composed of shift and normal components are excited in inspected pipe from side of internal surface through liquid transported product. Pairs of pulses constantly re-emitted along pipe and single pulses re-emitted locally are received. Time of coming of pairs of pulses is used to judge of diameter of pipe, distance between pulses in pair is employed to evaluate thickness of wall of pipe and single pulse re-emitted locally is used to judge of presence of defect. In agreement with process diameter, thickness and deviations from their average values are calculated by special formulas. EFFECT: increased authenticity of detection of defects oriented differently, provision for determination of geometric parameters ( diameter and thickness of wall ) of pipe over entire circumference with any step, simplified structural design of device realizing proposed process, diminished consumption of energy and enhanced productivity of diagnostics. 2 cl, 4 dwg
