FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, namely production of heat hardened blanks of pump rods. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of hot rolling of bars, cutting them by measured length pieces, air cooling, heating them, upsetting heads of pump rods, cooling and tempering blanks. Rolling and forming procedures are combined with air quenching realized by several stages. Blanks are made of low carbon steel with predetermined chemical content. Method provides ultimate strength of pump rods equal to 630 MPa. EFFECT: lowered labor consumption and cost of pump rod production process. 5 cl, 6 tbl, 1 expy
