Head protection device for motor vehicle

The device consists of an inflatable airbag (2) beside the head of a driver or passenger. The airbag is fixed in one point (6), and fastened movably via a guide (4) at the other end. The guide provides for low-friction bearing (8) for the associated front end of the airbag. The airbag is positioned relative to the guide, so that its movable fastening point (7) is forcibly and automatically moved into functional position during inflation. The guide unit has a linear moved steering bar (3), and the airbag is hinged to this. It also has a locking device (14) to act against an extension movement of the bar.
