The auxiliary circuit (24) is used for periodic regeneration of a storage battery (16) used for operation of the laptop computer, which can be charged via a DC network stage (18), with a first battery terminal (34) coupled to the latter via an earth line (33) and a second terminal (26) coupled to the DC network stage via a current line (25). The auxiliary circuit contains a control circuit (38) for initiating an automatic discharging/charging cycle, with the discharging effected via a switched load resistance (36).
