The invention features a method for identifying compositions which modulate the activity of a Na<+>-dependent nucleoside transport polypeptide. This invention also features isolated DNA encoding the transport polypeptide, a method for recombinantly producing the transport polypeptide, antibodies which specifically bind to the polypeptide and polynucleotide sequences which specifically hybridize to polyncucleotide encoding the transport polypeptide.
