PURPOSE:To make a dedicated drive source unnecessary and make it possible to perform recovery action of a carriage using a drive source by transmitting the rotation of a leading screw to a driving means to cover an ink jet head with a cap member during the process of entry of the carriage from a recording area to a non-recording area, and at the same time, actuating a suction means. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 7 is allowed to move in a direction (b) to engage a clutch gear 4 with a cap gear 23c. The rotation of an idle gear 22 is transmitted to a cap member gear 23 through a transmission gear 3 and a clutch gear 4, and a cam 23a which is coaxial with the gear 23 rotates to give a swing motion like a cap lever 24. If the carriage 7 moves, a drive pin 8 falls into the groove 2b of a leading screw 2, and the carriage 7 stops, the cam 23 continues to rotate and the cap lever 24 moves clockwise along the surface of the cam 23a in the process of the continued rotation of the cam 23a. Further, a cap member 27 approaches a head section 12a and these two are pressed against each other. |
