Corrosion-inhibiting dampening agent for offset printing, reducing maintenance and material cost

Dampening agent for offset printing has a corrosion inhibitor containing a water-soluble boron (B) compound . The inhibitor contains 0.005-1.5 wt.% B compound, especially boric, metaboric or poly-boric acid or their salts. It may also contain other component(s) to increase its effectiveness, especially (i) salt(s) of inorganic acid, more especially phosphate(s), particularly 0.01-1.5 wt.% phosphate; and/or (ii) organic additive(s). Other component(s) cited are an organic substance, an acid, a surfactant and/or a water-soluble alcohol and/or glycol or glycol ether. The combination of the B compound and other component(s) gives maximum corrosion protection at pH 4-6.5.
