In a method of making a wire wound resistor the resistance wire 6 is tightly wound on a former 3, for example of polyester plastics material, which is then shrunk by heat treatment so that the wire is loosened. The former is preferably hollow and can contain a hard core of relatively non-heat-shinkable material spaced from the former before heat treatment such that after shrinking the former is a tight fit on the core. The winding of resistance wire is subsequently encapsulated to prevent damage thereto. |
