A centring piece (2) resting against the end of the pipe is positioned inside the sprung steel connecting sleeve (3) the outer end of which has a seal. The connecting sleeve is in the form of a double sleeve to take two pipes being joined. The outer end parts of the connecting sleeve are radially and inwardly flanged. The internal diameter of the inner flange (4,4') is less than the outer diameter of the pipe ends (5,5') being joined. The inner flanges are radially elastically deformable and seal the pipe ends.
