A process for altering the program cycle of automatic washing machines involves carrying out a phase - spinning with pumping out the residual washing solution - after another phase i.e. pumping out the washing solution. The subsequent phase fresh water supply, rinsing and pumping out the rinsing water is carried out with a reduced amount of water. The phase is repeated on a smaller scale with a shortening of the subsequent spinning process.
