The invention relates to a piston (10) for a hydrostatic machine (1) and a corresponding production method. In a conventional production method of this type, the piston (10) is shaped from a blank (40) into a shank section (42) and a ball and socket joint section (46) connected to the shank section (42) by means of neck section (44). According to the inventive embodiment, an additional blank (41) for an inner tube (41') is inserted into the blank (40) of the outer tube (40') before the latter is shaped. A hollow piston (10) comprising one or more hollow chambers (51, 52) between the inner (41') and the outer (40') tubes is formed after both blanks (40, 41) have been shaped.
