RESISTANCE APPARATUS FOR LIMBS

A resistance apparatus for use in exercising and rehabilitation of a user's limbs includes a generally drum shaped housing having a shaft opening that is sized and shaped to accommodate a shaft. The housing also has a cable opening for threading a cable from the interior portion of the housing to its exterior portion. The apparatus includes a shaft supported by the housing at the shaft opening and a cylindrical reel that fits within the interior portion of the housing. The reel contains a spiral spring having a first end connected to the shaft and a second end extending through a reel opening. The spiral spring is configured to wind around the shaft and to provide controlled torsion/tension to the spiral spring. The apparatus includes a cable having a first end portion attached to the second end portion of the spiral spring and a second end portion extending through the cable opening in the housing. The cable has a connector and cuff for releasable attachment to selected individual limbs of a user. During use, the spiral spring pays out cable from the housing in order to provide independent adjustable resistance to the individual limbs and other muscle groups of a user during exercise or rehabilitation.
