A device for detection of high-power pulsed microwave radiation, which can be used to ascertain whether an object has been exposed to microwaves of high pulse power which can cause damage to the object. The device includes a plate (1) of conductive material which is provided with one or more slots (2). The slots contain air or other dielectric material. When the plate (1) is hit by a microwave pulse, an enhancement of electric field in the slots (2) takes place. When the electric field intensity in a slot exceeds the electric strength of the dielectric material in the slot, a discharge in the form of a breakdown occurs right across the slot. The flash of lightning which ensues from the breakdown is recorded by means of a film strip (3) or some other means, whereby an indication is obtained that the area around the plate has been exposed to high-power pulsed microwave radiation. By varying the length and the width of the slots, the threshold values at which the device is to react can easily be governed.
|
