A surgical fastener assembly for use in bone fracture fixation comprises an adapter (20, 40), a surgical cable (C), a compression plate (P), and a crimp device, the adapter having a head (22, 44) portion having a bore extending therethrough adapted to receive the surgical cable (C), and a protrusion (28, 42) extending from an underside of the head portion and centrally of the head portion that is adapted for insertion into a recess (R) in the compression plate (P), the crimp device being deformable upon the cable to hold the cable in place around bone portions.
