Pure carbohydrate solns. are prepd. from impure, turbid solns. by (a) mechanical clarification, e.g. in a centrifuge (b) percolation through a column of strong acid ion exchange resins comprising 70% resin with SO3H gps. and inert micro-or macroreticular structure, and 30% resin (I) of microporous reticular structure with porosity (p) >=30% and pore dia. (p.d.) is not 250 angstroms, and (c) percolation through a column of anionic resin comprising 90% medium or weak resin with polyamine gps., macroreticular structure, p >=35% and p.d. not 250 angstroms, and 10% gel-forming resin of microporous structure with p.d. 10 angstroms. The soln. is then clarified chemically filtered, cooled and percolated through a 3rd column contg. 90% (I) and 5% absorbant resin of macroreticular porous structure with p >=40-45% and p.d. not 85-95 angstroms. The soln. is then passed down a 4 degrees, column contg. 95% medium or strong anionic resin with polyamine or quat. ammonium gps., of macroreticular porous structure with p >=45% and p.d. =500 angstroms and 5% of an absorbant which is a macroreticular porous acrylic ester resin having p.d. 90 angstroms. The soln. is then concd. |
