<p>A formaldehyde-free, self-curing interpolymer comprising repeating units derived from: (a) 40-30 wt.% functional olefinically unsatd. monomer(s) contg. a nucleophilic gp. represented by R1-C(R2)=C(R3)-X-(-(R4)nY; R1, R2, R3 = H, methyl, R4 = 1-4C alkyl, n = 0, 1; X = carboxyl, phenyl, aryl, alkyl or alkaryl gps. contg. 1-30C; Y = nucleophilic gp. selected from NH2, OH, C(O)-NHR5 and OC(O)-CH2-C(O)-R5; R5 = H, 1-20C alkyl, aryl; (b) 4-40 wt.% olefinically unsatd. dicarboxylic acid; (c) 1-60 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile; (d) 0-80 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid ester(s) of 1-30C alcohol(s); and (e) 0-80 wt.% monomer(s) selected from styrene, vinyl acetate and vinyl halides; (d) and/or (e) comprising at least 0.1 wt.%. Also claimed is a latex comprising the above interpolymer.</p> |
