<p>The load-carrying vehicle has a platform (12) and a propulsion unit (14) with a driving wheel (16) rotated by a battery-powered motor (30). The shafts (18) are pivotable (20) about a horizontal axis and carry a head (22) with buttons for raising and lowering. Traction or thrust forces on the shafts are measured (24) and used in a controller (26) to derive a set-point for the speed and direction of the motor. The drive control algorithm can also be implemented in the force measurement device.</p>
