PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain an aldehyde, especially an unsaturated aldehyde using an inexpensive catalyst containing a metal of a specific group of the periodic table, by reacting a corresponding acetylenic compound with carbon dioxide and hydrogen. SOLUTION: A catalyst containing two or more kinds of metals selected from the group 6 to the group 11 (preferably the group 6 to the group 10 of the periodic table) [generally a compound of each metal of the formula MpXq (M is a metal; (p) is 1-6; X is an inorganic or an organic group or a negative atom; (q) is 0-16 and when (q) is 0, the formula shows the metal itself)] (a heteropoly metallic complex containing two or more kinds of metals in the same molecule) is used as the catalyst and an acetylenic compound (hexyne, heptyne, octyne, nonyne, decyne, a cycloalkyne, etc.) is reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at room temperature to 350 deg.C under normal pressure to 300 atmospheric pressure (preferably at 50-250 deg.C under 10-150 atmospheric pressure) to produce the objective compound. |
