The cap has a disc-shaped bottom portion (12), onto which a cylindrical peripheral flange (13) is perpendicularly attached. The free end of this flange has an external peripheral edge (6) bearing positioned against the package end. This edge joins onto an extension flange (15) in line with and extending beyond the package end. The outer surface of the extension flange can be in line with that of the package, and the extension flange can be joined via a shoulder (14) onto the peripheral flange. A peripheral adhesive tape (17) can be used to secure the extension flange and the package together. Radial stiffening ribs can be provided on the cap bottom, extending over part at least of the peripheral flange.
