<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enzyme composed of a xylanase acting to xylan (or xylan-based polysaccharide) to hydrolyze theβ-1,4-xyloside bond, stable to heat, acting over a wide pH range and useful for the treatment of pulp, production of xylooligosaccharide, etc. SOLUTION: This new xylanase is an enzyme acting on xylan or a xylan- based polysaccharide to hydrolyze itsβ-1,4-xyloside bond and form xylose, capable of producing large amounts of xylooligosaccharides such as xylobiose, xylotriose and xylotetraose, active in the pH range of 2.6-9.6, having an optimum pH of about 6.0, acting at <=90 deg.C and having an optimum temperature of about 65-70 deg.C, a molecular weight of about 21,000 measured by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and an isoelectric point of about pH9.8. The xylanase is useful for the treatment of pulp, the production of xylooligosaccharide, etc. The xylanase can be produced by culturing Bacillus sp.SD902 (FERM P-13356) (a bacterial strain belonging to the genus Bacillus) and recovering from the cultured product.</p> |
