PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve preservability and maintainability of a material of an organic material or an inorganic material by impregnating an organic silicone compound into the material and hardening the obtained product. SOLUTION: A material selected from an organic material such as a leather, a woody material, an animal tissue and a paper, and an inorganic material such as a glass, a pottery and a ceramic is impregnated with one or more organic silicone compounds having two or more Hs per molecule and selected from silanes (mixture) and siloxanes (mixture) optionally after dehydrating in a bath comprising acetone and water, and further hardening the obtained product optionally in the presence of a catalyst. The organic silicone compound is exemplified by a compound of the formula RSi(OR')3 (R is H, vinyl, phenyl or a 1-12C alkyl; R' is H, vinyl or a 1-6C alkyl).
