PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having ambergris-type fragrance and having strong effect which can spread odor capable of strengthening fragrant characteristics of different odor and increasing its fragrant effect. SOLUTION: This compound is a cyclic cedrene acetal of formula I (a wavy line expressesα- andβ-configurations; R and R1 are each H, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, hexyl, pentyl, cyclobutyl or cyclopentyl). The compound is obtained by converting a cedrene epoxide obtained from cedrene to a mixture of epimer cedrenediols or a mixture whose each component is a diastereomer cedrenediol (a compound of formula II/a compound of formula III) by selecting reaction conditions, and reacting the latter with an aliphatic carbonyl compound without using a diluent or in an aprotic solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst by adding a water-binding agent.
