PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performances of coating film such as appearance, chipping resistance, adhesion property and weather resistance by using a coating liquid containing a vinyl copolymer expressed by specified formula, specified polyester resin, nonwater-based polymer dispersion liquid and crosslinking resin as a thermosetting coating material for an intermediate layer. SOLUTION: The thermosetting coating material for the intermediate layer in a three-layered coating film consists of the compsn. described below. This compsn. contains a vinyl copolymer containing 10 to 60wt.% structural units expressed by formula I and/or formula II and having 60 to 200mgKOH/g hydroxyl value and 2000 to 6000 number average mol.wt., a polyester resin having 80 to 120mg/KOH hydroxyl value and 1500 to 2600 number average mol.wt., a nonwater-based polymer dispersion liquid and a crosslinking resin. The thermosetting coating material for the intermediate layer, a thermosetting coating material for the base coat and a thermosetting clear coating material for the top coat are applied to form 10 to 50μm dry film thickness, 7 to 25μm dry film thickness and 20 to 50μm dry film thickness, respectively, and these layers are hardened by baking at one time.
