The truck comprises a single supporting axle or two parallel ones, in the latter case the distance between them being also steplessly adjustable. A constant force thrusting the axle halves into the minimum-length position is exerted hydraulically or by spring. Thus they are movable apart before insertion below the load, and then move together to grip it between them. Wheels on the axle ends preferably slew on vertical axes, and are of the twin type so as to hold the axle in a state of equilibrium.
