PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably perform high quality printing by surely and stably sucking to hold a printing medium to a drum. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a drum 10 capable of rotating in a constant circumferential speed, a charging means 21 that charges a printing medium M to allow the medium to be sucked and held to a circumferential face 11 of the drum 10 and a print head 200 capable of ejecting ink drops to the printing medium M held to the circumferential face 11. A semiconductor insulation layer 12 having an electric resistance value in a range of 1×10<10> -10<12>Ω.cm is formed on the circumferential face 11 of the drum 10 and is grounded. The charging means 21 is formed of a conductive rubber roller 23 capable of charging the panting medium by pressing it against the semiconductor insulation layer 12 on the drum 10 at an electric resistance value not exceeding 1×10<6>Ω.cm. A pressing/separating means 29 capable of pressing the charging means 21 against the circumferential face 11 and of separating it therefrom is provided. While the drum 10 is rotating in the printing and feeding, the charging means 21 is maintained in a condition that it is separated from the drum 10.
