1529248 Aqueous phase polymerization of vinyl halides and/or vinylidene halides B F GOODRICH CO 30 June 1976 [1 July 1975] 27161/76 Heading C3P Vinyl halides and/or vinylidene halides are homo- or copolymerized, optionally with other monomers containing the CH 2 = C< or groups, by (1) premixing the monomer(s) with a suitable initiator, a C 14-20 saturated aliphatic alcohol, and an ammonium salt of a C 8-20 saturated fatty acid in an aqueous medium, (2) homogenizing at a sufficiently low temperature to avoid initiation, (3) passing to a reaction zone and (4) polymerizing this monomer at 30-70‹ C. and pH 7À0-12À0; the ratio of C 14-20 alcohol to C 8-20 fatty acid salt is # 1À0: 1. In the examples, C 14 , C 16 , C 18 , C 20+1 , C 22 , C 12+18 C 14+18 , C 16+18 alcohols are employed with ammonium laurate (C 11 H 23 CO.ONH 4 ), and tbutyl peroxypivalate, in the polymerization of vinyl chloride. |
