Method of automatically controlling motor vehicle windscreen wipers

The method involves using a sensor (1) to generate a control signal for switching on the windscreen wiper motor when it starts to rain. The screen temperature is measured continuously and evaluated as a criterion for the onset of rain. If a temperature drop in excess of a defined magnitude occurs a switch-on control signal is generated. The temperature drop is determined by taking the difference between two temperature values measured at a time interval apart.
