Fibre=reinforced, light ceramic building material for construction board(s)

A method for producing fibre-reinforced, light ceramic building material involves infiltrating fibres with an aqueous binder mixture of aluminium hydroxide and an alkali metal silicate, preferably water-glass; e.g. a commercial 40% water-glass solution, dewatering then setting. Preferably, the binder has an Al:Si ratio of 3:1 and the fibres are glass and/or mineral fibres. Also claimed are: (i) a binder used in the above method which sets at room temperature to form a ceramic moulding having high hardness and strength; and (ii) a fibre-reinforced, light ceramic building material produced by the above method.
