An organic EL display which has a terminal electrode (3), a 1st electrode (2), an insulating layer (4) which covers a part of the 1st electrode (2), an organic functional layer (5) including a light emitting layer, and a 2nd electrode (6) including a wiring layer (62) on the surface of a substrate (1). After the 1st electrode (2), the terminal electrode (3) and the insulating layer (4) are formed, the substrate (1) is put on a mask (8) for restricting a layer forming region, then the organic functional layer (5) is formed, and, successively, a wiring layer (62) is formed by a method whose step coverage is better than that of the method used for forming the organic functional layer (5). Hence the wiring layer (62) is in contact with at least part of the terminal electrode (3). When the organic functional layer (5) and the 2nd electrode (6) are successively formed, the 2nd electrode (6) can be reliably connected to the terminal electrode (3) without replacing the mask (8). The organic functional layer (5) and "an electrode layer (61) containing a metal having a small work function" can be protected from moisture, oxygen, organic solvent, etc.
