PURPOSE:To obtain the title grains having uniform grain size by alternately adding specific polymerizable monomer and polymerization initiator to thermoplastic polymer grains suspended in an aqueous dispersing medium while each dividing the monomer and initiator and staggering time and polymerizing the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Thermoplastic polymer grains (e.g. styrene based polymer grain) suspending >=90wt.% thermoplastic polymer grains before start of polymerization in water and having uniform grain size being 0.9-1.1 in volume average grain size of total grains are dispersed into a suspension such as polyvinyl alcohol and a polymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene) containing no polymerization initiator and polymerization initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide) containing no polymerizable monomer are alternately added to the thermoplastic polymer grain suspended in the suspension while each dividing >=3 times and staggering time and the mixture is polymerized to provide the aimed grains. Furthermore, a readily volatile foaming agent is preferably used by impregnating the foaming agent into the grains. |
