摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce weight of power transmission shaft greatly by making outer and shaft members of fiber-reinforced composite material, and interposing an intermediate member made of elastic material between inner and outer members. CONSTITUTION:The outer ring 14 of an equal speed universal joint 10 is constituted by hybrid structure consisting of a steel inner member 14a along the mouse shape of the outer ring and an outer member 14b which is formed on its outside. The outer member 14b and a shaft member 2 are made of fiber- reinforced composite material and combined integrally each other. An intermediate member 14c made of elastic material exists between the inner member 14a and the outer member 14b. As for the power transmission shaft, a half of the outer ring 14 of the equal speed universal joint 10 and the whole shaft member 2 are made of fiber-reinforced composite material. Thus, it is possible to reduce weight of the power transmission shaft greatly.
